Dental insurance is a type of health insurance that provides coverage for certain dental procedures and treatments. It is designed to help individuals and families manage the costs of routine dental care as well as unexpected dental expenses. Dental insurance policies typically cover preventative care, such as regular check-ups, cleanings, and X-rays, as well as restorative treatments, such as fillings, extractions, and root canals. Some policies may also cover more complex procedures like orthodontics or oral surgery.
Dental insurance policies work in a similar way to other types of health insurance policies. Policyholders pay a monthly premium, and in exchange, the insurance company agrees to cover a certain percentage of the cost of covered dental procedures up to a maximum amount per year. Policyholders may also be required to pay a deductible or co-pay for certain services.
It's important to note that dental insurance may not cover all dental procedures, and there may be limitations and exclusions depending on the policy. Dental insurance policies may have waiting periods before coverage begins for certain procedures, so it's important to plan accordingly.
